CHANGING THE GAME : CHATA’s Approach to tourism in 2015

On January 21st, 2015 CHATA held its annual year opening event in which it welcomed the New Year together with its members.  This event took place at CHATA member Dutch Treat.  During this event CHATA took the opportunity to look back on the tourism achievements of 2014 and to present its plans for 2015. Next to this CHATA also officially presented its new in-room magazine titled In-Curacao. Fortress Interactive NV presented the 2015 edition of CHATA’s official in-room magazine ‘In Curaçao’. The new and improved, hardcover visitors guide can be found in all the rooms of over 36 accommodations on the island and at other strategic locations. The local Publishing company focuses on sharing the best of the island and it’s Local Secrets, while creating added value for the visitors and all Tourism partners. The in-room magazine will be accompanied by a complete digital infrastructure that will be launched soon. For now, everyone can download a free copy of the magazine on http://www.in-curacao.com, and sign up for updates and the opportunity to win great prizes. In 2015 CHATA aims to change the game of tourism on the island. CHATA believes in the power of partnerships and seeks to further encourage collaboration in all areas of tourism. CHATA therefore provides its members with different platforms in which they can draw from collective insights and resources. These platforms are so called Task Forces and Committees in which members have the opportunity to brainstorm about challenges and seek new opportunities collectively. CHATA is appreciative of the progress made in terms of collaboration on the island but is certain that there is ample room for improvement.  Positive examples of collaboration include the close partnership with the Curaçao Tourism Board (CTB) in which the private sector is able to provide input in the marketing of the destination. Also the collective effort of the private sector and government in realizing a new flight out of New York with JetBlue. Other positive example is the inclusion of the private sector in brainstorming sessions of the new tax legislations. CEO of CHATA, Mrs. Dindial however notes that there are many other areas in which collaboration is imperative and calls for action from the relevant parties. Issues such as the high cost of doing business of the sector, support for hotel developments on the island and awareness creation of the importance of tourism on the island need to be addressed immediately. CHATA's in-room magazine _In-Curacao_ Lizanne Dindial CEO CHATA Miles Mercera Director of Product & MarketingNo doubt tourism is an important pillar of the economy and contributes to the community. Fact is that every 4% growth in Tourism Stay-over Arrivals contributes to 0.7% growth in the total economy. The tourism industry is a shared responsibility of all of us. Let us continue to embrace this industry.
